Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos met on Friday with Albanian Ambassador Dashnor Dervishi and the Head of the FYROM Liaison Office in Greece, Ambassador Sashko Stefkov.
Mr. Avramopoulos and the Albanian Ambassador discussed bilateral and regional cooperation issues and Albania’s European Course in light of Albanian Foreign Minister E. Panariti’s upcoming visit to Athens, scheduled for early September.
With the Head of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia’s Liaison Office, Mr. Avramopoulos discussed bilateral relations, the potential for cooperation between the two countries and the need to resolve the name issue within the UN framework.
In both meetings, Mr. Avramopoulos stressed the need to confront phenomena of extremist nationalism that are poisoning relations between the peoples in the region and undermining the region’s European future.
