Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos met at the Foreign Minister today with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Greece, Ayodeji Lawrence Ayodele.
During the meeting, they discussed the great potential for economic cooperation that exists between Greece and Nigeria, particularly in the shipping and energy sectors. They also noted the longstanding presence in Nigeria of Greek entrepreneurs, who function as a bridge of cooperation between the two countries. Mr. Avramopoulos stressed Greece’s interest in expanding Greek-Nigerian economic relations and, in that context, extended an invitation to the Nigerian Foreign Ministry to visit Greece in the coming time.
In light of the recent tragic events that culminated in the death of a Greek citizen who had been abducted by terrorists in Nigeria, Mr. Avramopoulos underscored to the Nigerian Ambassador the importance of the Nigerian government’s taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of Greek citizens living and working in Nigeria.
