Foreign Minister Avramopoulos meets with the Second Deputy Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives

Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos met today at the Foreign Ministry with the Second Deputy Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives, Steve Georganas.

During their meeting they carried out a review of the two countries’ bilateral relations, which they ascertained as being at an excellent level.

Particular emphasis was put on the Greek community in Australia, members of which have a consistent presence in federal and state agencies, lending additional special weight to the Greek Australian community on the country’s domestic political stage.

Mr. Avramopoulos discussed Greek foreign policy priorities with Mr. Geoganas, briefing him in detail on the FYROM issue and expressing Greece’s appreciation for Australia’s firm positions on the issue.

Finally, Mr. Avramopoulos made a brief presentation of developments regarding the economy, underscoring the efforts of the Greek people, the progress that has been achieved in recent months, and the change in Greece’s image abroad as it has regained its credibility.
