Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos met yesterday with the Speaker of the Canadian Senate, Noël A. Kinsella.
During the meeting, which took place in a warm climate, the Speaker of the Canadian Senate stressed that the main goal of his visit was to express Canada's solidarity with Greece, underscoring his country's respect for the huge efforts and sacrifices the Greek people are making to confront the crisis.
The two sides noted the great importance of the strong presence of the Greek-Canadian community in Canada, which acts as a bridge of friendship between the two states.
Mr. Avramopoulos informed Mr. Kinsella that he will be visiting Canada in late October, in response to an invitation from his Canadian counterpart, and he stressed the mutual benefits for the two countries from the promotion of cooperation in the sectors of investments and commerce.
Referring to political developments in our region, Mr. Avrampoulos pointed to Greece's stabilizing role in Southeast Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean, and Mr. Kinsella expressed his country's will to develop strategic cooperation with Greece, which is a trade gateway to Europe and an important factor for peace in the region.
Senators James S. Cowan and Leo Housakos also participated in the meeting.
