Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos met today with Venezuelan Ambassador Franklin Ramon Gonzalez, with whom he discussed Greece’s bilateral relations with Venezuela and the other countries of Latin America, reaffirming the very good cooperation that exists between the two countries.
Within the framework of their discussion, Mr. Avramopoulos asked the Venezuelan Ambassador for his country’s assistance in the speedy implementation of the Convention on the transfer of sentenced persons, Strasbourg, 1983 – which both countries have signed and ratified – in the case of two Greek Merchant Marine Officers who have already been held in Venezuela for four years.
In recent months there has been intensive activity between the two countries aimed at the return of the two Greek citizens to Greece, where they will serve out the rest of their sentences.
