Following his working visit to New York, Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos will travel to Canada on Sunday, 24 February 2013, where he will carry out a three-day official visit within the framework of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of Greek-Canadian diplomatic relations.
Within the framework of his visit, Mr. Avramopoulos will have bilateral consultations with Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird (Wednesday, 27 February) during which the two Ministers will discuss the latest developments in Europe and the efforts to confront the economic crisis, EU-Canada relations, and regional developments in Southeast Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean.
Mr. Avramopoulos will also meet with the Speaker of the Canadian Senate, Noel Kinsella (Tuesday, 26 February), who will host a reception in the Foreign Minister’s honor at the Canadian Parliament. On the same day, Mr. Avramopoulos will attend a dinner with distinguished members of the Greek Canadian community of Ottawa.
During his official visit to Canada, Mr. Avramopoulos will also visit Toronto (Monday, 25 February) and Montreal (Tuesday, 26 February) – the two largest cities in Canada, with large Greek Canadian communities – where, in addition to meeting with representatives of the Greek Canadian communities, he will have meetings with business and investment agencies, within the framework of the Foreign Ministry’s initiatives aimed at attracting foreign investments to Greece.
Finally, Mr. Avramopoulos will meet in Toronto with His Eminence Metropolitan Sotirios of Canada.
