Foreign Minister Avramopoulos sends congratulations on the anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Cyprus

Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos sent a message of congratulations to the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Cyprus, Erato Kozakou-Markoullis, on the occasion of the 52nd anniversary of the declaration of independence of the Republic of Cyprus.

In his message, in which he conveys his heartfelt wishes, Mr. Avramopoulos assured his counterpart that the Cyprus issue is a top priority of Greek foreign policy, underscoring that the ongoing cooperation and coordination between Greece and Cyprus are a guarantee of the effectiveness of the joint struggle, the ultimate goal of which is the termination of the Turkish occupation and the reunification of Cyprus within the framework of an agreed, viable and functional solution.

Noting that despite the joy of the celebration of independence, the continuing tragedy of the ongoing Turkish occupation and settlement is not forgotten, Mr. Avramopoulos stressed that Greece will continue to provide every assistance and support to Cyprus toward achievement of the common goal.

Finally, Mr. Avramopoulos conveyed his wishes for peace, progress and prosperity to the Cypriot people.
