Foreign Minister Avramopoulos’ statement at the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Greece, Italy and Albania on the Trans Adriatic Pipeline

“I want to thank Giulio Terzi and Edmond Panariti for the very good collaboration we had, which enabled us to sign today’s Memorandum of Understanding, which is an important step in a process that can lead to the realization of an energy project of vital interest not just to our countries, but to Europe as a whole.

The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) will contribute significantly to Europe’s energy security, to the diversification of natural gas transport routes, and at the same time will create growth and jobs for our economies in these difficult times.

This project can also function as a catalyst for strengthening our cooperation on many other matters of common interest and promote the relations between our three countries.

We will have more talks soon, within the coming days and weeks, so that we can move ahead to the signing of a final agreement that will strengthen our cooperation with the TAP joint venture.”
