Foreign Minister Avramopoulos’ statement regarding the loss of Nestoras Matsas

“Nestoras Matsas left us in the fullness of days, but he will always be present through the multifaceted, invaluable, incomparable quality of his work.

Having lived through the hell of the occupation and his family’s persecution, hunted as a Jew, this Christian-by-choice focused on his love for Greece and Greeks, and on our intellectual heritage.

In addition to his important work, he leaves us with another presence. The presence of the exemplary ethos of humility, decency and nobility with which he lived, conducted himself and made his way.”
