Foreign Minister Stavros Dimas met with European Investment Bank (EIB) President Werner Hoyer on the margins of the EIB conference on climate change and the prospects for growth in the renewable energy sources sector in the wider regions of Southeast Europe.
During the meeting there was an exchange of views on how EIB means and tools can be utilized to optimum effect, particularly in the area of funding SMEs, which are the backbone of the real economy.
It was stressed that cooperation and synergy with the EIB in this sector is of particular importance at the current time, given that, as part of the broader institutional framework of the European Union, the EIB supports projects that are co-funded by the European Commission and, as such, also provides know-how for the preparation of these projects.
Foreign Minster Dimas underscored that, with the completion of the agreement with the European Partners on support of the Greek economy, emphasis must now be put on bolstering the market and promoting specific projects and measures that will return the Greek economy to positive growth rates.
