Foreign Minister Dimas speaks by telephone with Libyan Foreign Minister Ashour Bin Khayal

Foreign Minister Stavros Dimas spoke by telephone yesterday with the new Foreign Minister of Libya, Ashour Bin Khayal, to congratulate him on his new duties and wish him success in his difficult task.

Mr. Dimas expressed Greece’s full support for the process of democratic transition and institution building in Libya, assuring his Libyan counterpart of our country’s ongoing support for the efforts of our friends the Libyan people. Within this framework, Mr. Dimas informed Mr. Kyayal that the Greek Embassy in Tripoli would be reopening soon and contributing to the strengthening of relations and cooperation between the two countries in all sectors.

Mr. Khayal expressed his gratitude for Greece’s support for the Libyan people during the revolution and its major contribution in the humanitarian sector. He made special reference to the medical care provided to hundreds of Libyan wounded during the conflict and through to today, and Mr. Dimas accepted the Libyan Foreign Minister’s invitation to visit Libya soon.
