Foreign Minister Droutsas’ statement on developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Foreign Minister Droutsas made the following statement today regarding the agreement reached during EU High Representative Ashton’s recent visit to Banja Luka on withdrawal of the decision to hold a referendum on judicial powers, revision of the Serbian National Assembly’s conclusions on the Dayton Agreement, and the opening of structured dialogue with the EU:

“This is certainly a major development, and one that Greece – as a country in the immediate neighbourhood and a firm supporter of the unity and European perspective of Bosnia and Herzegovina – is very pleased with. We now need to capitalize on this positive state of affairs to promote Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European integration process even more actively. This is the only way to safeguard the stability and security of the wider Western Balkan region.

We hope also to see positive results directly on other intractable problems troubling the country, and in this direction we will contribute with specific proposals and recommendations to the institutional organs of the European Union.”
