Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias met in Antalya today, on the margins of the Meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers, with the Foreign Minister of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Nikola Poposki.
Mr. Kotzias expressed the Greek government’s deep condolences to the families of the victims of the latest crisis in the neighbouring country, as well as his concern at the situation that has been created, stating that restraint, reason and dialogue must prevail.
Messrs. Kotzias and Poposki discussed issues concerning bilateral cooperation between the two countries, as well as matters of regional interest.
Mr. Kotzias expressed his support for the negotiations being carried out under the UN Secretary General’s personal envoy, Matthew Nimetz, regarding the name issue, and he reiterated Greece’s firm positions on FYROM’s European and Euroatlantic perspective.
Finally, the two Ministers discussed the prospect of adopting confidence-building measures, a development that could lead to the improvement of bilateral relations.
