Foreign Minister N. Kotzias’ statement to the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT) following the first day of the Meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs (Brussels, 6 December 2016)

“Today we had the meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs. We looked at the issue of NATO-Russia relations, the issue of NATO’s actions in the South, while the main subject of discussion was NATO-EU relations. Tomorrow we will be discussing NATO-Ukraine and NATO-Afghanistan relations. Our positions are that we should find a way to shape a security architecture for the whole of Europe -- stability. Moreover, we are of the opinion that NATO itself should explore how it perceives its role in the 21st century, together with the EU, what kind of outlooks, values and visions it wants to have. And mainly, how it will contribute to the stability of peace and the consolidation of a sense of security in the Middle East, together with the EU, in order to contribute to a two-state solution, Palestine and Israel.

I am having a number of meetings: I met with the Ministers of Georgia and Montenegro. I will see the Albanian Minister and the FYROM Minister. I talked again with my German colleague and with the Foreign Minister of Hungary, and during these two days -- or in Hamburg, where the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Ministerial is taking place -- I will have a discussion with the Foreign Minister of Turkey.”
