Foreign Minister Lambrinidis and Alternate FM Xenogiannakopoulou to participate in the GAC/FAC

Foreign Minister Stavros Lambrinidis and Alternate Foreign Minister Mariliza Xenogiannakopoulou will travel to Brussels on Sunday, 17 July 2011, to participate in the meetings of the General Affairs and Foreign Affairs Councils (GAC/FAC) scheduled for Monday, 18 July 2011.

The agenda for the GAC includes a presentation by the Commission of the new Multiannual Financial Framework, and a presentation of the Polish Presidency’s programme.

At the FAC, High Representative Catherine Ashton will present initiatives that have been taken on CFSP issues, and the Foreign Ministers will also look at developments in the Southern Neighbourhood – with the focus on Syria, Libya, Lebanon and the Middle East peace process – as well as at climate change and security issues. Luncheon topics will include the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
