As soon as the abduction of a Greek national in northern Nigeria became known, Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos was informed and is keeping Prime Minister Samaras apprised of developments.
At the Greek side’s initiative, Mr. Avramopoulos communicated with Italian Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi concerning coordination on and joint confrontation of the situation.
The two liaison officers of the Greek Police serving at the Greek Embassy in Nigeria are coordinating with their counterparts from involved countries and are in contact with the competent Nigerian authorities.
A state aircraft has been put on alert in case it is deemed advisable to send a unit from Athens to Nigeria.
