The Head of the Liaison Office in Skopje, Ambassador A. Papadopoulou, made a demarche to the Foreign Ministry of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia regarding the arch that was constructed in the central square of Skopje depicting the Vergina Sun and scenes of irredentist nature in violation of the Interim Accord and the principle of good neighbourly relations.
In this context, the Head of the Liaison Office also protested the continuation, through various actions, of the policy of distorting history, which is directed against Greece and other neighbouring countries.
Greece has repeatedly underlined that such actions, apart from violating the Interim Accord and the principle of good neighbourly relations - an essential precondition for the neighbouring country’s European perspective - are also dangerous and constitute a threat to the stability of the Balkan region, which has, already in the past, suffered in the name of nationalism.
Greece calls upon the government of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to undertake corrective measures that would rectify the aforementioned actions.
