The Foreign Ministry announced the following with regard to reports in the news media on the release of Greek Orthodox Metropolitan Paul of Aleppo:
“From the moment the kidnapping of Greek Orthodox Metropolitan Paul of Aleppo and Syriac Orthodox Metropolitan Gregory Yohanna Ibrahim of Aleppo became known, we have been monitoring all the developments and relevant reports very closely.
Over the last few hours, there have been reports in the international and Greek news media that the two kidnapped Metropolitans were released.
So far, these reports have not been officially confirmed.
Any confirmed development will be announced.”
