Mr. Davutoglu’s interest in human rights comes very belatedly. If Turkey showed the same interest in its ethnic and religious minorities, most of which have vanished, the situation would be very different today in our fragile neighbourhood.
Fortunately, the Muslim minority in Thrace and the Greek Muslims of Rhodes and Kos do not share Mr. Davutoglu’s views. They know that the Greek state is a model of respect for human rights, and they live in harmony with their Christian fellow citizens.
Empty rhetorical posturing does nothing to shape a good climate and build trust.
