Foreign Minister Dimitris Droutsas will visit Nicosia, London and New York from 14 to 19 February 2011.
On 14 and 15 February, Mr. Droutsas will be in Nicosia, where he will attend a working dinner held in his honor by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Christofias. Mr. Droutsas will also meet with Cypriot Foreign Minister Kyprianou, the President of the House of Representatives, Mr. Garoyian, and with the heads of the political parties.
The itinerary for Mr. Droutsas’ stay in the UK (15-17 February) includes meetings with Foreign Secretary Hague, Minister of State responsible for European issues and NATO Lidington, opposition representatives and Archbishop Gregorios of Thyateira and Great Britain.
Finally, on 18 February Mr. Droutsas will be in New York, where he will meet with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Archbishop Demetrios of America and representatives of the Greek American community.
The main topic of discussion in the Foreign Minister’s meetings at the threes stops on his tour will be the Cyprus issue, in the light of President Christofias’s recent meeting with Mr. Eroglu in Vienna and ahead of the relevant progress report the UN Secretary General is preparing for the General Assembly. The message Mr. Droutsas will convey to all his collocutors is that Greece firmly stands by the efforts of the Republic of Cyprus to find a just, viable and functional solution that is based on the resolutions of the UN Security Council and implements the Community acquis.
