At the invitation of the Hungarian Ambassador to Athens, Mr. József Toth, who represents the current Presidency of the European Council, the Foreign Ministry’s Secretary General, Ambassador Y.-A. Zepos, participated in a working breakfast with EU member-state Ambassadors to Athens for a discussion of developments in the countries of the Middle East and North Africa.
Mr. Zepos briefed the EU Ambassadors on the Greek assessment of the situation taking shape in Egypt, given that Mr. Zepos recently visited Cairo and met with high-level Egyptian politicians. He stressed the importance to the whole region of the impending political changes in Egypt, as well as the need for the EU to support this process. There was also a discussion of developments in Tunisia and Libya.
Finally, the Ambassadors of many European partners expressed their gratitude to the Greek government for its speedy response to requests for assistance in evacuating their citizens from Libya and for the successful outcome of evacuation efforts coordinated by the Foreign Ministry.
