Foreign Ministry Secretary General Zepos meets with his Israeli counterpart, Ambassador Barak (Athens, 23 March 2011)

The Foreign Ministry’s Secretary General, Ambassador Yannis-Alexis Zepos, and his Israeli counterpart, Ambassador Rafael Barak, met in Athens today, 23 March 2011, for political consultations on issues including the upcoming Greek-Israeli Joint Ministerial Cooperation Council and regional developments of mutual interest.

Within the framework of exchanges of visits of diplomatic personnel, it was agreed at the meeting that Israeli diplomats would be invited to Athens during the last quarter of 2011, with Greek diplomats then reciprocating the visits.

The two sides also agreed to hold regular consultations on EU-Israeli issues.

Finally, the Israeli side expressed its satisfaction at the Hellenic Parliament’s definitive regulation today of the issue of the Jewish cemetery in Thessaloniki, while Ambassador Zepos expressed his deep dismay at today’s terrorist attack in Jerusalem.

Ambassador Barak was also received by Foreign Minister Dimitris Droutsas.
