Foreign Ministry spokesman Gregory Delavekouras made the following statement today regarding the illegal detention in occupied Cyprus of Members of European Parliament and citizens of the Republic of Cyprus”
“This is an illegal act carried out by an illegal regime. But it is also an obvious show of contempt for European institutions. The MEPs who were detained had undertake the mission to investigate the condition of Cyprus’s cultural heritage in the occupied section of the island. A heritage that the occupation regime and Turkey have left to the mercy of the ravages of time, nature and organized looting. This unacceptable situation that has been created must end with the immediate release of all those being detained illegally.”
