Foreign Ministry spokesman Gregory Delavekouras made the following statement today regarding the incidents in Albania:
“Today’s violent incidents in Albania did not just cause the tragic deaths of three persons and the injury of many others, but were also a blow to Democracy. Albania must not at this time let itself be dragged into violent phenomena, whatever the origins of these phenomena. It is, in fact, the historical responsibility of all the political and social powers of the country to show self-restraint. The only way out of the impasse blocking modernization and undermining the country’s smooth course towards the EU is through constructive dialogue, in a spirit of compromise, within the framework provided by the Constitution and laws. Greece will continue to monitor the developments closely and support this effort.”
