Foreign Ministry spokesman’s reply to a question on statements from FYROM PM Gruevski

Foreign Ministry spokesman Gregory Delavekouras made the following reply to a journalist’s question on FYROM Prime Minister Gruevski’s statements concerning past proposals from the UN Secretary General’s personal envoy, Mr. Nimetz:

“The course, stance and actions of each of the parties in the negotiations for a definitive solution to the FYROM name issue are well known and have been set down.

The issue is not what Mr. Gruevski remembered or neglected to mention three years later.

What we need is to find a solution today, now.

Greece has submitted substantial proposals for a just and viable solution on the name issue; proposals that can lead directly out of the impasse. We are still waiting for the other side to respond. We are still waiting for a solution that will free up the Euroatlantic future of our neighbouring country and create a framework for good neighbourly relations.

These facts are acknowledged by the international community and set down clearly in the unanimous decisions of international organizations. It is now up to the leadership of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to take the steps they need to take.”
