Foreign Ministry Spokesman’s reply to a question regarding the issue of German war reparations and the loan that Greece was forced to pay during the period of occupation

The Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gregory Delavekouras mentioned the following in his reply to a question from a journalist regarding the issue of German war reparations and the loan that Greece was forced to pay during the period of occupation:

"Greece's position on this matter remains constant and unchanged.  The statements made recently by the Foreign Minister in Parliament are valid in their entirety.

Specifically, on the 28th of March, Foreign Minister Stavros Dimas, during the joint session of the Parliamentary Standing Committees on Economic Affairs and Defence & Foreign Affairs regarding Greece's petition for compensation from Germany, stated that the issue remains open and added that:

The issue of German war reparations and the loan that Greece was forced to pay during the period of occupation, is still pending and we retain the right and means to handle the matter toward the best possible outcome for our country.  In order to cast aside any doubts, I reiterate that Greece has never waived its relevant claim and will never do so.

The Foreign Minister also mentioned that the issue can and must be discussed again, accompanied by the relevant evidence that will further enhance our case, in the context of the mutual respect and trust that must govern the bilateral relations between Greece and Germany."
