Foreign Ministry spokesman’s statement regarding the killing of UN personnel in Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan

Foreign Ministry spokesman Gregory Delavekouras made the following statement regarding yesterday’s attack on a United Nations mission in Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan:

“Yesterday’s killings of members of the UN mission in the city of Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan, have shocked international public opinion. The violence with which the killings were perpetrated, the motives of the perpetrators and the fact that the victims were carrying out humanitarian and development work benefiting the local community make this an atrocity.

We express our deep condolences to the UN Organization and the families of the victims.

Faced with this tragedy, the international community remains united and dedicated to its stated goal: to strengthen conditions of peace and security in Afghanistan, to help democracy take root and to improve the lives of the Afghan people.”
