Foreign Ministry spokesman Gregory Delavekouras made the following statement regarding the Turkish Foreign Ministry announcement on Turkey’s intention to conclude an “agreement” on the delimitation of the Turkey-occupied Cyprus continental shelf:
“Turkey’s announced intention to conclude an “agreement” on the delimitation of the continental shelf with occupied Cyprus contravenes international law. Any such “agreement” will be null and void. It can in no way be linked to the Republic of Cyprus’s exercising of its self-evident sovereign right to proceed to the exploitation of its natural wealth.”
