Foreign Ministry spokesperson’s response to journalists’ questions regarding Greece’s assuming the Presidency of the EU

Responding to journalists’ questions on statements made by German MPs to the German news media regarding Greece’s assumption of the Presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2014, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Konstantinos Koutras pointed out that the institutional workings of the European Union are governed by principles of law and rules contained in the Treaties in force, and that they are based on the institutional equality of member states and respect for the national sovereignty and dignity of each of those member states. In this context, Greece is fully prepared to fulfil its obligations as the Presidency. Any further discussion is superfluous.
