Single Market and Relevant Policies
Single Market
The Single Market is one of Europe’s most important achievements. It is the area in which people, goods, services and capital move freely. A well-functioning Single Market allows EU citizens to enjoy a wider choice of services or products and better job opportunities. Given that the Single Market is the main pillar of European economic integration, its smooth operation, its further deepening and the strengthening of its resilience in times of crisis, is a prerequisite for the success of the European economic recovery plan and the enhancement of the competitiveness of the European economy. It is therefore necessary, on the one hand, to eliminate all existing unjustified barriers to the Single Market and, on the other hand, to fully implement the rules of the Single Market. All actions that strengthen the Single Market will improve the results of the recovery plan and will contribute to Europe’s strategic autonomy.
Greece believes that the seamless operation of the Single Market is a precondition for a strong economy that will benefit all member states, citizens and businesses, thus meeting the conditions of global competition. In this context, it supports any initiative to further deepen the Single Market in all its dimensions and places special emphasis on strengthening the small and medium-sized enterprises as they have been impacted by the pandemic and the war in Ukraine. Greece attaches particular importance to the further development of the services sector, through the elimination of unjustified barriers and administrative burden, due to this sector’s very important contribution to the European economy.
