Regional Policy

Greece occupies a geostrategic position at the foot of the Balkan Peninsula – where the process of European integration is still under way – at the maritime crossroads of the Eastern Mediterranean, which is the most ancient bridge of commercial and intellectual communication with the Middle East. It is, moreover, at the geographical terminus of a critical region in the planning of all major energy routes for securing energy sufficiency for Europe, the Black Sea and the Caucasus. Greece has more than a geographical relationship with these regions: Greek presence in these areas has deep historical and cultural roots and is still visible everywhere in political and economic terms. For this reason, Greece is developing and implementing a cohesive regional policy, the ultimate goal of which is to consolidate peace and security, and spread prosperity, throughout our immediate neighbourhood.
