The 2nd Greek-Kazakhstani Joint Interministerial Committee on Economic and Technological Cooperation was held in Athens on 14 and 15 October 2013, under the co-chairmanship of Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Kourkoulas and his Kazakhstani counterpart Alexei Volkov.
The Greek delegation included Foreign Ministry personnel as well as representatives of the Ministries of Energy, Development & Competitiveness; Transport & Networks; Rural Development & Food; Finance, Tourism and Cultures. The Secretariat General for Research & Technology, the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV), the Municipality of Athens, and the National Centre for Public Administration were also represented.
The Kazakhstani delegation included the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Athens, Sergey Nurtayev, as well as representatives from the Ministries of Industry & New Technologies; Rural Development; Transport & Communications; and Environmental Protection. The Municipality of Almaty was also represented.
Discussions covered issues of cooperation in the sectors of energy, environment, road and air transport, agriculture, research and technology, tourism, standardization and, finally, cooperation on the level of local administrations. Issues concerning EU-Kazakhstan relations were also discussed ahead of the Hellenic Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The two co-chairs of the JIC signed a Protocol on the sectors of trade, tourism, attracting investments, the participation of Greek companies in major infrastructure projects being carried out in Kazakhstan, and the transfer of know-how.
Finally, during the meeting of the Greek-Kazakhstani Joint Committee on International (Road) Transport, the framework for cooperation in the sector of transport was considered.
