Interurban bus from Ioannina in accident in Albania

A few hours ago, an interurban (KTEL) bus from Ioannina, which was carrying out a regular run, went off the road, under as yet unclear circumstances, and into a gorge in Albania. According to initial information, the bus was carrying approximately 50 persons, the citizenship of whom is yet to be confirmed.

Foreign Ministry Secretary General Yannis-Alexis Zepos contacted the Albanian Ambassador to Athens, informing him that the Greek authorities can make a Greek Rescue Team (EMAK) unit immediately available for extracting the passengers and that Ioannina Hospital is in a position to receive those injured in the accident.

The Greek Foreign Ministry is following developments in the situation via the Greek Embassy in Tirana.
