The Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini and the Foreign Minister of Greece Dimitris Droutsas met today in Rome to discuss bilateral, European and international issues of common interest of the two countries.
Minister Droutsas stressed the full commitment of Prime Minister G. Papandreou personally and of the Greek government to pursue and implement the three-year (2012-2015) mid-term plan of reforms aimed at the stabilization of the Greek economy which was yesterday approved by the Greek cabinet. Minister Frattini, expressed the full confidence of the Italian government for the reform package that the Greek government will today present to the leaders of the Greek political parties.
Frattini also stressed Italy's willingness to cooperate to the success of Greece's stabilization and recovery plans.
The two ministers discussed at length on how to further develop the two countries' bilateral economic relations in specific areas such as energy and telecommunications, as well as the participation of Italian companies to the Greek privatization program.
Italy and Greece are committed to continue their cooperation on strategic energy projects, such as ITGI and South Stream.
The two Ministers agreed to further consolidate the cooperation between the two governments on immigration, with the aim to strengthen the effectiveness of European policy in view of the next European Council.
Frattini and Droutsas also discussed in depth the Libyan crisis and its prospects.
