Meeting on issues pertaining to the Hellenic Presidency of the Council of the EU

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos chaired a broad-configuration meeting at the Foreign Ministry today for a final review of the preparations that have been made for the Hellenic Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2014.

A review was carried out of the Presidency’s political programme, including its priorities; the schedule of the councils; activities and visits; cooperation with other international and regional organizations; as well as immediately pending political issues, such as the EU-Turkey Readmission Agreement and the EU-Serbia Intergovernmental Conference. Moreover, the meeting covered issues concerning the technical preparations for the Presidency, including communication strategy, the grant programme, the cultural programme, and the opening ceremony.

Mr. Venizelos expressed his satisfaction at the excellent preparations made by the involved services and his conviction that the effective cooperation of these services guarantees the Presidency’s success in meeting its goals.
