Minister of Foreign Affairs George Gerapetritis’ statement upon arrival at the meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs (Brussels, 28.11.2023)

Minister of Foreign Affairs George Gerapetritis’ statement upon arrival at the meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs (Brussels, 28.11.2023)G. GERAPETRITIS: First of all, I would like to warmly welcome the extension of the humanitarian pause in the Middle East. The images we are seeing of hostages being released, humanitarian aid being delivered, and efforts being made on the ground, allow us to be a little more optimistic that we will be able to address this major humanitarian crisis.

And certainly, they provide an opportunity to work towards lasting peace in the region.

In the midst of the crises in the Middle East and Ukraine, the North Atlantic Alliance remains steadfast, united, and in solidarity with the affected states. We will continue on this path.

We hope to officially welcome Sweden as a new Alliance member soon. We will also discuss Ukraine, as well as the Western Balkans. Greece has always been at the forefront of the discussion on the Western Balkan countries' accession to the Alliance and the European Union.

All this is in view of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Alliance, which has significantly contributed to global security architecture and will continue to do so with vigour.

Thank you very much.
