Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgos Katrougalos to participate in the 3rd Brussels Conference on Syria: “Supporting the future of Syria and the region” (Brussels 12-14 March 2019)

Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgos Katrougalos will travel to Brussels on Wednesday, 13 March, where he will participate in the proceedings of the 3rd Brussels Conference entitled “Supporting the future of Syria and the region,” which will be co-chaired by the EU and the United Nations.

The Conference will examine the crucial humanitarian issues that Syrians face, as do the communities that host Syrian refugees, both within and outside the country, while the political support of the international community is expected to be confirmed, to Syria itself as well as to its bordering countries.

Greece fully supports the need for continuation and intensification of humanitarian diplomacy and improvement of the conditions for providing humanitarian aid, the protection of non-combatants, and especially of vulnerable population groups such as women and children, as well as of the operation of humanitarian organisations active in Syria. In this context, the Minister of Foreign Affairs is also due to announce Greece’s contribution, which will be made available through OCHA.

On the margins of the Conference, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will meet with his Turkish Counterpart, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.
