Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias to visit Iraq (Baghdad, Erbil, 14 October 2020)

On Wednesday, 14 October, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias will travel to Iraq, accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic Diplomacy and Openness, Konstantinos Fragogiannis, to meet with the country’s state and political leadership.

Mr. Dendias will first meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq, Fuad Hussein.

The talks will focus on bilateral issues, with emphasis on the economic sector and on developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.

Following the talks, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs will sign Memoranda of Understanding on political consultations between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs and cooperation on diplomatic training.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs will then be received by the President of Iraq, Barham Salih, and Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi.

Concluding his visit in Baghdad, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will visit Erbil, where he will meet with the President and the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Nechirvan Barzani and Masrour Barzani, and with the historical leader Masoud Barzani.

Finally, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will inaugurate Greece’s Consulate General in Erbil, with local officials in attendance.
