Today we had a meeting of the ministerial Council of NATO, where we discussed Russia, the security problems in Europe’s south, the Afghanistan issue and of course the Western Balkans. I also had a series of meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey.
We made it clear that for fYROM to receive an invitation to join NATO, the decision taken in Bucharest in 2008 and the results of the negotiations will have to be implemented. The other side has to understand that it must agree to erga omnes so we can move ahead to a comprehensive, positive agreement.
Regarding Russia, a discussion took place in which I underscored that the critical observations made in the Council should be raised directly with Russia and that there should be no doublespeak. Concerning the crisis in the South, I made a number of proposals, such as cooperation with the African Union and other regional organizations.
