In his remarks in the context of the 27th OSCE Ministerial Council, which was held via videoconference, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias highlighted that the increasing and ever more complex security challenges and threats that Europe is facing, including the deterioration of the security situation in the Eastern Mediterranean, render imperative that all participating states respect the Organization’s principles, not only in words but also in deeds.
Referring in particular to the “frozen conflicts,” the Minister stressed the need for commitment to the efforts towards political resolution based on international law. Mr. Dendias underscored the role of the OSCE, which is an invaluable platform for dialogue and strengthening of security in Europe, through an inclusive approach and an integrated response of the political, economic and social aspects.
Furthermore, the Minister argued for the importance of promoting cooperation with Mediterranean Partners – recalling the recent OSCE Mediterranean Conference – as well as with partners in Asia.
Finally, the Minister congratulated the outgoing Albanian chairmanship of the OSCE on its term in office, under the difficult conditions of the coronavirus pandemic, and wished Sweden success in its upcoming chairmanship.
