Ministry of Foreign Affairs announcement on Turkey’s new illegal Navtex (11 November 2020)

In a new illegal NAVTEX, Turkey announced the continuation of its illegal seismic surveys from 11 to 23 November in a region overlapping the Greek continental shelf in the Eastern Mediterranean, once again violating the International Law of the Sea and undermining peace and stability in the region.

In other words, it is proclaiming the fact that it will continue to ignore the appeals of the international community and the European Council for avoidance of such illegal actions and compliance with international legality.

Greece reiterates its condemnation of this provocative conduct, which further undermines any prospect of a constructive dialogue, and calls on Turkey to immediately retract its illegal Navtex.

In this context, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias issued instructions for a demarche to be made immediately to the Turkish side and for Greece’s allies and partners to be notified of Turkey’s ongoing illegal conduct.
