NATO Summit Meeting in Lisbon (19-20 November 2010)
On Friday, 19 November, Prime Minister Mr. George Papandreou will be in Lisbon to attend the NATO Summit Meeting. He will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Dimitris Droutsas, Defense Minister Evangelos Venizelos and Deputy Interior Minister George Petalotis.

The Meeting is expected to adopt NATO's new Strategic Concept, which will provide guidance to the Alliance for the coming decade. The new Strategic Concept is necessary to NATO in the face of the new challenges and threats to the security of the Euroatlantic region.

Points on the Summit's agenda include:

-NATO’s partnerships with other International Organisations (EU, UN, OSCE) and states cooperating with the Alliance on various levels.

-The necessary reforms in NATO’s defense infrastructure in order to adapt to the new security requirements coupled with the impact of the financial crisis.

-The Antimissile Defense programme aimed at the protection of the territories of NATO’s populations from the nuclear threat.

A Meeting of Heads of State and Government of the countries participating in the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) mission of the United Nations will take place. This meeting will also be attended by Afghanistan’s President, Mr. H. Karzai, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, the President of the European Council, Mr. Van Rompuy, the President of the European Commission, Mr. M. Barroso, the President of the World Bank, Mr. R. Zoellick, and Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan.

Finally, a NATO-Russia Council Meeting will be held with the participation of President Medvedev.
