Public screening of the Canadian documentary "Sex Slaves"

Foreign Ministry’s Kranidiotis Amphitheatre

10:00-13:00, 30 March 2011

As part of its public awareness campaign against human trafficking, the Foreign Ministry will host a public screening of the award-winning Canadian documentary “Sex Slaves” from 10:00 to 13:00 on Wednesday, 30 March 2011, in cooperation with the Canadian Embassy in Athens and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

At the screening event, Deputy Foreign Minister Spyros Kouvelis will present the Foreign Ministry’s action plan for raising public awareness in the fight against modern slavery. The Canadian Ambassador to Greece, Ms. Renata E. Wielgosz, and the head of IOM-Greece, Mr. Daniel Esdras, will also speak, coordinated by journalist and director Giorgos Avgeropoulos.

The documentary employs hidden cameras to record the efforts of a Ukrainian man to find and save his wife – a victim of human trafficking – bringing the viewer face to face with the nightmare experienced by the victims of human slavery, who are trafficked through international organized crime networks.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with the directory of “Sex Slaves”, Ric Bienstock.
