Repatriation of Greeks in Egypt

It was decided at a meeting convened at the Foreign Ministry this morning by Deputy Foreign Minister D. Dollis that the plan for repatriation of Greek citizens in Egypt who wish to return to Greece will be activated.

The relevant plan provides for the sending of military aircraft, pursuant to consultations carried out with the Defence Ministry following the outbreak of the crisis.

Due to the situation prevailing in Egypt, the aircraft will depart when the necessary security conditions have been secured for Greek citizens who have stated their desire to be repatriated.

The Greek Embassy and Consular Missions in Egypt are in ongoing contact with the Greek community in Egypt, as well as with the Patriarchate. According to the information that has been gathered, all the Greeks are in good health. The Greeks in Egypt are being instructed to remain in their homes due to the conditions on the streets.

The Foreign Ministry is in ongoing coordination with the other EU countries, as well as with third countries carrying out repatriation operations.
