Results of Deputy FM Kouvelis’s visit to Azerbaijan (1-3 February 2011)

On Thursday, 3 February, Deputy Foreign Minister Spyros Kouvelis completed his visit to Azerbaijan, where the Azerbaijani and Greek sides had the opportunity to sign the Cooperation Protocol of the 3rd meeting of the Greek-Azerbaijani Joint Interministerial Committee.

This Protocol provides for the strengthening of bilateral economic and trade cooperation in priority sectors, including energy, health, agriculture, tourism, transport, communications, information technology, SMEs, entrepreneurship and banking. It also provides for strengthened cooperation in new sectors, such as education, youth and sports, as well as emergency needs.

The Greek and Azerbaijani sides also noted the positive prospects opening up in the energy sector, particularly with regard to the ITGI pipeline.

Finally, the two sides underscored their constructive cooperation within the framework of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC).
