Results of International Economic Relations Secretary General Mihalos’s visit to Israel

The Israeli government and private investors showed strong interest in Greece’s broad privatization programme and tourism sector during Secretary General for International Economic Relations and Development Cooperation Peter Mihalos’s two-day visit (15-16 October) to Tel Aviv.

Mr. Mihalos met with Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon, Deputy Secretary of the Government Dr. Gaby Golan, with his counterparts at the Israeli Foreign Ministry, Irit Ben-Abba and Eli Lev, as well as with the head of the Organization for International Development Cooperation Mashav, Ambassador Daniel Carmon, Infrastructure Ministry Director General Sagi Karni, and the Energy and Water Resources Ministry’s Petroleum Commissioner, Alexander Varshavsky.

During his meetings with the private sector, Mr. Mihalos set out the opportunities opening up in the privatization and tourism sectors, also seeing confirmation of interest in cooperation with Greek enterprises in other sectors, including waste management, food industries, agriculture, and hi-tech manufacturing.

In an interview with the Israeli daily Haaretz, Mr. Mihalos underscored the positive steps that the Greek economy has taken and the reforms that are underway.
