The Foreign Ministry’s Secretary General for International Economic Relations and Development Cooperation, Mr. Constantine Papadopoulos, represented Greece on Monday, 26 September 2011, at the EU Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) – on Trade Policy issues – in Brussels.
The representatives of the member state
- Reaffirmed their strong interest in the successful conclusion of the round of Doha negotiations on world trade. Ahead of the World Trade Organization (WTO) ministerial conference this December, the Council called on the members of the WTO to capitalize on the progress already achieved to seek a way out of the apparent impasse in the talks.
- Assessed the prospects for completion of the negotiations on the conclusion of free trade agreements with India and Ukraine, and briefed the Commission on the progress that has been made in the negotiations on Russia’s entry into the WTO.
- Set down the initiatives aimed at strengthening the EU’s trade relations with the countries of the southern Mediterranean within the framework of the EU’s contribution to the political and economic transition of the wider region.
