NOTE: as of 01.09.2022 Greek passports for adults and minors above 14 years old are valid for a period of ten years.

In case of loss or theft, the holder of the lost passport must immediately report the incident to the nearest Police Department or Consular Authority (the same applies if the lost passport is found). The Consular Authority shall conduct an investigation to verify the circumstances of the loss or theft of the passport, which may take up to three (3) months. According to the current legislative framework, the applicant cannot acquire a new passportduring the investigation, unless it is deemed necessary for him/her to travel abroad in case of hospitalization, death or serious illness of themselves, the husband/wife, or blood or in-law relatives up to the seconddegree.

In cases of emergency, provisional travelling documents (ETP) can be issued by the Greek Consular Authorities abroad, only for the repatriation of Greek citizens.
