We concluded our discussion with the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal. This visit is based on the exceptionally good bilateral relations that Greece has developed with Saudi Arabia, on our discussions regarding international developments, and, of course, on the major issue of the Middle East. In this regard, we had the opportunity to discuss the next steps, to explore ways to solidify humanitarian aid, which should be provided continuously, and also to discuss the day after in the Middle East. At our invitation, Prince Faisal, the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, as well as his counterparts, the Foreign Ministers of Egypt and Jordan, will attend the Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels on January 22. Greece is at the forefront of developments, leading the diplomatic marathon so that a swift solution to the major Middle East issue can be achieved.
JOURNALIST: What are the next steps in your diplomatic marathon in the Arab capitals? Is there a specific Greek initiative in this regard?
G. GERAPETRITIS: Greece is currently at the forefront of these discussions. Our next steps include visits we will shortly make to Jordan and Egypt, two countries that are actively engaged in the diplomatic process to resolve the Middle East issue. There is also the upcoming visit of the Palestinian Foreign Minister to Athens.
Greece, with its unwavering commitment, coherence and seriousness, along with the diplomatic capital it possesses, will be actively engaged in these developments in a constructive manner. Our focus is not only on providing necessary and sustainable humanitarian aid but also on commencing dialogue aimed at a viable settlement of the Middle East crisis on the basis of the United Nations Security Council resolutions.
JOURNALIST: Thank you very much.
