We are meeting today at the Informal Meeting of the Foreign Affairs Ministers of the European Union member states, in the midst of escalation rather than containment of crises.
For this reason, we will discuss and hopefully achieve substantial results in order to enhance Ukraine's resilience, strengthen institutions in Africa, find a way to cease hostilities in the Middle East and have a substantive discussion for a lasting solution, which will ensure prosperity and peace in the wider region.
Furthermore, we will discuss issues concerning Euro-Turkish relations. Greece has always been in favor of Türkiye's European path. That is in the interest of both the European Union and the stability of the wider Eastern Mediterranean region.
Türkiye should, of course, on its part, recognize the issues which are highly sensitive to the EU’s member states. Specifically, there should be tangible evidence of its commitment to continue the dialogue on the Cyprus issue, on the basis of the United Nations Security Council resolutions. Greece will be present in this process.
Relations between Greece and Türkiye have improved recently. This is an essential prerequisite for the advancement of Euro-Turkish relations. On the other hand, Türkiye should consistently demonstrate its willingness to improve Euro-Turkish relations, always adhering to the milestones of the European acquis.
The European Union should be present in major crises and capable of addressing the world’s most pressing concerns with a single voice.
Thank you very much.
